Tired And Trapped



		TIRED AND TRAPPED
			Two little puppets hang
				in lovely gold cages.
			One has danced herself into a frenzy.
		She leaps
		and beats at the bars
		like an angry chimpanzee,...
...unable to stop, unable to escape.
		The second puppet is still charmed by the gold cage which holds her oh so lovingly.
		She dances happily within.


		The trailer’s shabby interior glows in candle light and the air is musky with the sent of wood.
		The small space is cluttered with other inanimate marionettes.
		They are scattered throughout the room, slumped against the walls, tangled around the chairs legs.
			A white dog stands upon a red stool playing a lively tune on a fiddle.

Across from him an old bearded man rests at a weathered oak table.				With a thought he commands the dog whose playing animates the poor little marionettes.
	A little monkey in a hat and vest sits upon the table eating peanuts from the old mans hand,...
...occasionally screeching his delight and applauding the performance.
			Around and around the fair haired puppet spins tired and trapped, trying to maintain a cheerful countenance.
All the while her neighbor rattles against the cage walls, coming undone at her joints.
	At last the dark haired marionette lies in pieces within her cage.
			The remaining dancer
			glimpses
			her fate.
	Tiny tears grace her wooden cheeks as she spins and jounces compelled by the enchanted music.
